How to set up your iTunes, Apple TV, iPhone & iPad Home Sharing to access your computers iTunes content.

Getting started

  • Make sure all your Apple devices are on the same home network.
  • Make sure the computer you want to stream content from is on, and iTunes is open.
  • If you're using a Mac with an Apple TV, you can set your Apple TV to wake your Mac for services like Home Sharing. On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Energy Saver and select > Wake for Wi-Fi network access.

Choose a device below to set up Home Sharing.

  • MAC or PC

    You can use Home Sharing with up to five computers on your home network. Follow these steps to use Home Sharing:
    1. Open iTunes on your computer.
    2. Sign in with your Apple ID and password. Use the same Apple ID for every computer or device on your Home Sharing network.
    3. Go to File > Home Sharing.
    4. Turn on Home Sharing.
    Now you can use Home Sharing:
    • Stream music, movies, TV shows, apps, and other iTunes content from one authorised computer to another. The computers need to be on and awake, and iTunes needs to be open.

  • Apple TV

    1. On your Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Accounts > Home Sharing. On earlier models of Apple TV, go to Settings > Computers.
    2. Select Turn on Home Sharing.
    3. Then enter your Apple ID and password. Use the same Apple ID for every computer or device on your Home Sharing network.
    Now you can use Home Sharing on your Apple TV: 
    • To find shared libraries, go to the main menu, select Computers, and choose a library.
    • You can also view photos from your computer on your Apple TV: Open iTunes on your computer. Then go to File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV.

  • iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch


    1. Go to Settings > Music, or Settings > Videos.
    2. Scroll down to Home Sharing.
    3. Tap Sign in.
    4. Then enter your Apple ID and password. Use the same Apple ID for every computer or device on your Home Sharing network.

    Now you can use Home Sharing on your iOS device:
    • To enjoy shared videos, open the Videos app, tap Shared, and choose a Library.
    • To enjoy shared music on your iPhone or iPod touch through Home Sharing, open the Music app and tap My Music > Library. For iPad, just tap My Music. On the screen that appears, tap the category near the middle of the screen. Then tap Home Sharing and choose a shared Library to connect to.

N.B. To stream your iTunes content to up to 5 computers on your home network, your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Apple TVs, your computer with your media content will need to be on.
